Myanmar Gears Up for ASEAN Video Festival for Children 2018

Top broadcast officials readying strong participation in hallmark ASEAN event

Anak TV president, Ms Elvira Yap Go, with Myanmar’s Mr. Ze Yar (director for Radio – MRTV), During last year’s SEAPJ.

This year’s November 22-24 are red-letter dates in the realm of children’s media as these are the dates of the pioneering Southeast Prix Jeunesse Video Festival for Children. SEAPJ 2018’s theme is Everyday Heroes.

A brainchild of Anak TV, the organization composed of the local broadcast networks led by Elvira Yap Go, the SEAPJ celebrates the children of the entire southeast Asia by way of a series of events revolving around media literacy, media education and promotion of positive values. The pilot edition in 2017 had the Philippines as host, with Anak TV as the secretariat. SEAPJ 2018 sees the Philippines and Anak TV as the prime movers again, as host country and secretariat, respectively.

Go, who is also Anak TV president, shares that with the event practically just around the corner, the various partner-organizations of the ten ASEAN countries are already neck-deep in preparations. She says Myanmar recently announced the members of its National Committee that will be in-charge of all matters related to Myanmar’s participation in SEAPJ. Heading SEAPJ Myanmar is Mr Myint Htwe, the director general of MRTV. The other members are: Mr. Ze Yar (director – Radio); Ms.Thin Thin Swe (assistant director, National Races Channel, MRTV); Mr. Han Myint (senior general manager, Shwe Than Lwin Company, Ltd.); and Ms. Chan Nyein Thu (head of Strategy & Planning, Forever Group Company Ltd.). Jointly taking on the role of secretary are MRTV officials, Ms. Moe Thuzar Aung (director) and Ms. Ling Maung Pan (deputy Director). SEAPJ Myanmar will implement a wide array of activities for its participation in the 2018 SEAPJ, including organizing relevant pocket events, inviting participants, training young talents, as well as selecting and judging entries to the video festival. SEAPJ Myanmar is collaborating with private media entities to ensure a successful Myanmar participation in SEAPJ.

Go adds that SEAPJ is a great avenue to manifest ASEAN cooperation in the area of child development.
